Field Marks and
Identifying Characteristics:
while looking for a Grosbeak calling deep in a Russian Olive, two OCWA/TEWA type warblers hopped into view in the same tree. the first one i ID'd as a female TEWA. overall bright yellow, Greenish on the back, dark eyeline and light supercilium, and most importantly white UTC's visible. I didn't see any streaking in the chest or sides. the second warbler was an OCWA. streaked sides and yellow UTC's clearly visible as a contrast to the bird seen before it. we lost both birds pretty quickly and never relocated for photos.
Song or call & method of delivery: silent
Behavior: rapid foraging like a typical migrant.
Habitat: russian olives on the north end of the grove at north shore.
Similar species and how
were they eliminated:
OCWA;
compared directly. lacked streaking, overall lemon yellow, white UTC's and a dark eyeline all rule out OCWA.
