Field Marks and
Identifying Characteristics:
7-8" Thrush with rusty-brown color on back extending to nape and over top of head. Bold facial pattern and bold spotting on whiter breast and sides.
Song or call & method of delivery: Bird was silent.
Behavior: Working through lower trees and vines
Habitat: Urban Mixed trees, shrubs and vines.
Similar species and how
were they eliminated:
Size of a larger Hermit thrush but rusty brown color on back extending over nape and head. Bolder Facial pattern with high contrast of spots on breast and sides. Darker coloring than Veery which are also rare here.
Previous experience with
this & similar species:
No experience with this species, but noticeably more brown extending over head from a hermit thrush.
