Identifying Characteristics:
SY male in breeding plumage. Diagnostic chestnut streaks on flanks, contrasting with an otherwise pale underside. Dark mask and yellowish cap.

Similar species and how
were they eliminated:
Male CSWA are pretty distinctive and not likely to be confused with another species.
Previous experience with
this & similar species:
I have personally seen this species many times across multiple states in the eastern U.S. and am therefore quite familiar and experienced with it. Some of the other members of the crew on hand have seen them in Wisconsin and New York.
