Field Marks and Identifying Characteristics: |
Largish warbler, Brown back with two wing bars, pale yellow underneath
brightest on breast and undertail. Small thin streaks on breast and
flanks face grayish with bold yellow supercilium and mustache, whitish
throat, small yellow patch beneath eyes. Also noted rufous cap and black
bill. (see photos) |
Song or call & method of delivery: | I thought I heard song once, descending chip series, like a slow OCWA |
Behavior: | Gleaning insects from leaves, noted odd tail-pumping behavior |
Habitat: | Shrubby understory and lakeshore. |
Similar
species and
how were they eliminated: |
Rufous cap rules out most species except Chipping Sparrow, which has a dark eyeliner and lacks yellow tones and breast/flank streaks. Tail pumping is also unique. Brown back rules out YEWA and others. |
