Field Marks and Identifying Characteristics: |
Drake. Spotted about 100 feet East of Lakeshore Dr. About the same size as
mallards. Very thin amount of white on blue wing patch. Would not come to shore
for bread like the mallards would. Very similar to female mallard, but darker.
Pure yellow bill with black nail at tip. Brown tail feathers and streaked brown
undertail. Pale, plain belly. Later spotted in backyard with mallards and wood
ducks. (see photos) |

Female Mallard: Darker, yellow bill, thin white in wings, brown tail feathers. Mallard*Mex Hybrid: Streaked brown undertail, NO white in tail, very uniform. |
