Optical equipment: First noticed with naked eye and Vortex Viper binos 8x42.
Weather: Partly cloudy and windy.
Light Conditions: Nice flat lighting to have ability to see details on the bird.

(Description:)       Basic Shape: Warbler
(Description:)  Overall Pattern: Light yellow below with white undertail, darker olive above.
(Description:)            Bill Type: Longish, straight sharp bill.

Field Marks and
Identifying Characteristics:
Small light yellow bird underneath with sharp bill, thin pale eyebrow with distinct dark eyeline, whitish undertail coverts, short tailed, no streaking on underside. Darker olive back, wings and upper side of tail.
Song or call & method of delivery: None observed.
Behavior: Foraging in dense patch of weeds along the trail with small flock of American Goldfinches
Habitat: Lakeshore with open grassy areas, large trees and weedy fields.
Similar species and how
were they eliminated:
Orange-crowned Warblers have a narrow, broken eye-ring, faint poorly defined pale eyebrow and eyeline, blurry streaks on sides of chest, undertail coverts distinctly yellow, no wing bars.
Previous experience with
this & similar species:
I've seen many Orange-crowned Warblers in Utah as they are quite common here (probably hundreds of observations). Have seen Tennessee Warblers in Utah, Florida and Costa Rica.
