Field Marks and Identifying Characteristics: |
Black mask with a broken white eye-ring, gray cap. White supercilium extending
backwards to nape. Throat and breast yellow extending into belly with black
necklace and streaking on the flanks. Grayish wings with white wing patches.

Song or call & method of delivery: | Silent during encounter |
Behavior: | Foraging about 5-10 ft. up in a line of Russian Olives on the north side of the E-W dike. |
Habitat: | Mature Russian Olives 10-15 ft. tall |
Similar
species and
how were they eliminated: |
YRWA – Much less yellow on breast, no yellow on belly. Audubon’s does not have black mask; Myrtle has a black mask but not nearly the amount of yellow. Males have yellow on the top of the head. Magnolia has black patch on back, although this individual had less black than normal and more olive-yellow. No other male warblers I know of that regularly occur in Utah that look very similar at all. |
