Field Marks and
Identifying Characteristics:
First noticed a warbler making an unfamiliar chip, found the warbler high in elms above me. Overall very drab, buffy yellowish on the back, head, throat and breast, 2 white wingbars on dusky wings, faint streaking on flanks, faint eye arcs and supercilium, dusky eyeline, white undertail coverts. Legs and feet appear mostly yellowish. As we were watching the birds disusing ID possibility, Cameron Cox showed up and promptly settle the ID as a Blackpoll, he has extensive experience with this species and similar warblers, I have little with this eastern complex.
(see photos)
Song or call & method of delivery: Heard an unfamiliar warbler chip
Behavior: Flitting around in the canopy of elms
Habitat: Ranch planted with tall trees, known migrant trap
Similar species and how
were they eliminated:
Most similar is non-breeding Bay-breasted, which have limited streaking and are brighter yellow overall with higher contrasting black and white wings and black legs and feet

Pine is also be similar, but lacks streaking and is duller overall, and have black legs and feet

Cape-may would be grayer and have a greenish rump and black legs and feet

this & similar species:
None-with Blackpoll, I have seen Bay-breasted, Pine and Cape-may
