Field Marks and Identifying Characteristics: |
Only got a fleeting glimpse as it flushed, I identified it primarily by call. Was relatively small with a notched tail, brown back, and white belly with streaks. |
| Song or call & method of delivery: | Buzzy, nasal "chit-chit-chit" given from near eye level in dense cover of trees |
| Behavior: | Calling from dense bushes then flushed as I tried to get closer |
| Habitat: | Dry mountain forest near stream |
| Similar
species and
how were they eliminated: |
Calls eliminated most songbirds and notched tail indicative of finches. Brown back and white belly eliminated any goldfinch species and size and calls eliminated House or Cassin's Finch. |
