Scott Gibson (22 Feb 2018) - [Elmo, UT] - Sage Thrasher. Bird was observed during a winter raptor count. It flew to a shrub less than 10 feet from the vehicle. All four observers got a look for nearly a minute. Bird had a pale eye with a heavily streaked breast. Chest coloration was buffy/light brown.

Weston Smith (7 Feb 2018) - [Morgan Valley Dr] - White-throated Sparrow. While trying to get some photos of Scrub-Jays three sparrows popped up out of the dense brush next to road two were adult white striped the other was a Song Sparrow. Both birds looked like to one pictured though one didn't wish its picture taken as it kept head behind a few twigs. Birds were up Deep Creek Road in the brush on North side of road just after crossing over creek. This is about a mile from where we saw one while scouting for the Morgan CBC in December.

Brenda Brannen (21 Feb 2018) - [ Orem City, UT] - Pinyon Jay. My first reaction to this jay was the almost uniform grayish blue color and "stub" tail. There were no contrasting wing bars, eyebrows, undertail coverts, etc. It was definitely not my Georgia (bright) blue jay nor the Steller's jay--no crest on this jay, just a rounded head with dark eye. None of the scrub jays, including Woodhouse's, would fit either because of color differentiations and longer tails. I am confident that the 2 jays I saw at this location were, indeed, PIJA's. There was no snow in this area when I arrived 2-18-18, but it snowed all night that night so that on the 19th snow covered everything, including bird feeders. On the day I saw the PIJA's, the snow had melted enough to allow seed to be available in the feeders outside. One of the jays was at a feeder very close to the glass door where I stood. The other was at a feeder a little farther away but still in good view. I don't know if the weather change could have influenced the appearance of these birds or not, but again, by physical appearance and process of elimination of other jays, I know what I saw to be Pinyon jays.

Kayla Echols (14 Feb 2018) - [BYU Campus] - Orange-crowned Warbler. Small, quick-moving bird foraging near a flock of Juncos--about the same size as the Juncos too, but with a proportionally shorter tail. Whole body olive-yellow-green in color, including yellow undertail/vent. Very sharp, pointy bill, with a dark but rather indistinct eye-line and very faint blurry streaking on the breast. No wingbars or particularly striking field marks besides the overall yellowish color. They stayed fairly low, sometimes only a foot off the ground, and I didn't see them venture any higher than about 20 feet.

My husband noticed a reddish brown bird with some pink and a gray head. I saw a russet orangish bird with lighter colored wings which was larger than the juncos. Saw the large cone shaped yellow bill. Made me think of the EVGRs seen earlier today but was much smaller and wrong color. Bird gave us some good looks while perched; it was tamer than the juncos. Saw definite gray head/cheek with black forehead, noticed eye ring and scaled feathers on breast when bird faced us. Followed it until we both got good, close looks with binos. Double checked ID with field guides. Dismissed black rosy-finch because we saw definite brown color on back and belly contrasting with the gray head and only saw black on the head.

Kristin Purdy (2 Feb 2018) - [Ogden Bay WMA] - Mew Gull. Possibly the same bird reported by Mike Hearell on 1/12/2018, except it's injured now. In comparison to nearby RBGUs, slightly smaller; slightly darker mantle; thinner, yellow bill with barely discernible mark on lower mandible; dirtier, blurry streaking on head. Dark eye. Noticeable scapular crescents and larger, defined tertial crescents. Bird persistently kept its left leg raised and limped heavily when trying to walk. In the waterfowl rest area.
