Kenny Frisch (9 Sep 2017) - [Lucin, UT] - Pacific-slope Flycatcher. I had a Western Flycatcher at Lucin and was able to get a recording of it finally giving a female position call. The U shaped spectrogram over 7 kHz looks like a match for Pacific-slope rather than Cordilleran which should have a less sharply shaped spectrogram under 7 kHz.

Tom Wuenschell (9 Sep 2017) - [Golden Spike NHS] - Peregrine Falcon. When I first saw this large bird with pointed wings flying toward me my initial thought was a misplaced osprey in this vast landscape of cheatgrass, greasewood and sagebrush. But as it got closer and flew directly overhead I saw the thick dark mustache, clear upper breast with barring below. When it banked it's upper parts were a blue-gray color.

Kendell Watkins (29 Sep 2017) - [Antelope Island SP] - American Golden-Plover. Three directly north of mm 3 (100-150 yards) with 67 Black-bellied Plovers and a PGPL/AGPL. Smaller than Black-bellied Plovers with dainty bills and bright superciliums. Warm brown coloring overall. Four others observed in flight with a large group of BBPL near mm 4. Dark underwings and rump observed (no black in the armpit).
      -- Pacific Golden-Plover. Noticeably darker than any other plover on the mudflats. Rich golden-brown coloring overall, long-legged and more compact appearance, primaries extended just past the tail. Appeared to be an adult in non-breeding plumage. Compared side by side with both Black-bellied and American Golden-Plovers. Photos -- The bird is on the left in the first photo, on the right in the second and on top in the third.

Marcy Hafner (24 Sep 2017) - [Scott M Matheson Wetlands Preserve] - Eastern Phoebe. I watched this bird for a long time and even though it is extremely rare its behavior and field marks convinced me it was an eastern phoebe. It repeatedly went from a fence post to the ground and back up again. It constantly wagged its tail by going down first, then up. It had a dark bill, a darker head than the rest of its body, two faint wing bars and a light wash along each side of the breast.

Kenny Frisch (29 Sep 2017) - [Holladay, UT] - Northern Waterthrush. This bird was calling in a spruce in my backyard and I noticed its distinctive call. The bird was very skulky and I only saw the brownish bird as it was flying away. The two species the call initially sounded close to were Northern Waterthrush and White-throated Sparrow. This bird seems like a better fit for Northern Waterthrush with its pitch range from 5-7 kHz which is in line for Northern Waterthrush. White-throated Sparrow calls tend to be more in the 5-6 kHz range.

Roy Morris (24 Sep 2017) - [River Mile 33.5 Beach Camp] - Sabine's Gull. First encountered around River Mile 39 while motoring down river, was unable to photograph then. The gull floated up to our campsite/beach in the AM around 7 as we were about to leave, flew briefly showing distinct M pattern on the wings and rested on the beach before heading back into the water. Acting similar to a Phalarope spinning in the water on both observations. Pictures with iPhone and binoculars for the campsite encounter.

Observer in High Tower watched the bird attempt to land on the blade of a turbine that wasn't spinning, but he or she slid off immediately and flew NE, I watched with the scope from Low Tower. It was at 0650 but I could see the light underside, dark tail with light vent, dark upperwings and face pattern of this large bird.

Kristen Purdy (28 Sep 2017) - [North Skyline Trail] - Northern Goshawk. Looked large after all the Sharpies/Cooper's I've seen in the last week. Brown head with pale supercilium, uniformly checkered/barred underwings and body with no black markings, white undertail coverts, barred medium tone/dark tone tail. Tail tip characteristic shape: not straight, curved or notched, but with outer retrices clearly an increment shorter than the central ones. Likely a migrant. Popped over the ridge from the north and flew past me, heading south.

Kristen Purdy (25 Sep 2017) - [North Fork County Park] - Prothonotary Warbler. Popped up out of thick hawthorne over a stream and just above eye level while I was trying to pish up a chipping Wilson's Warbler. Brilliant yellow unmarked head and throat with no tints or shades. Jet black bill and eye. Breast through shoulder and side obscured by leaf, but lower edge of folded wing (primaries) visible under leaf; slate bluish and unmarked. Didn't see back. Lower belly bright yellow and unmarked, undertail coverts pure, unmarked white with clear demarcation between yellow belly and white under tail at black legs. Sturdy tail; under tail spot pattern white almost to distal end with outer tips of folded retrices dark. Flew out of sight after about 5 seconds of observation and I couldn't re-locate the bird then or in a second, later audience.

Kristen Purdy (10 Sep 2017) - [Cutler Trail to North Skyline Ridge] - American Three-toed Woodpecker. One female drumming alone with steady taps, faster at the end of the sequence. Got my attention. Watched her for a long time excavating on a conifer until another distant ATTW began to drum. She chipped once in response, drummed, and flew in the direction of the distant drummer, stopping to drum a couple times. Duetting by both birds lasted 2-3 minutes. Drumming sequence steady taps, faster at the end. Black-and-white, somewhat messy woodpecker; white blaze down the back, white sides barred dusky. On a north-facing fir-covered slope with lots of deadfall and with apparently bark beetle-killed trees. Very surprising low elevation of 6,383 feet.

Kristen Purdy (2 Sep 2017) - [South Ogden Nature Park] - Indigo Bunting. Feeding on weed seeds along the edge of the paved trail near, but not joining, a mixed flock of Lazulis, House Sparrows, Brewer's, Lincoln's, and Lesser Goldfinches. Similar size/shape/structure as nearby Lazulis, but a richer, brighter rust color. Fresh, non-breeding plumage. Obvious whitish throat with faint, narrow sub-malar, pale malar sweeping aft and below auriculars and clearly tinged grayish proceeding back to nape. Significant somewhat coarse (obvious, not fine) streaking on breast and sides. Two wing bars, buffy with rust overtones, not strong. Bluish-gray tones at scapular above median covert wing bar, base of wing flight feathers, and base of tail when the bird stretched. Watched this bird for at least 20 minutes from as close as 7 feet, with binoculars. Unwary.
