Saw it right as I drove up, but took off before I could get a picture. Bright, yellow legs obvious as it flew, distinguishing it from Western Gull or Slaty-blacked Gull. Very confident in ID.

Very dark,black plumage with the gray cap and rosy coloration on the wings. This bird was with a flock of about 10 other Rosy-finches, who were not as obliging. They quickly moved off the road and down out of sight.

Tim Avery (5 February 2017) - [Mountain Green, UT] - GREAT GRAY OWL. -- Wow! Awesome bird!!! Glad a couple birders decided to come forward after learning this bird had possibly been present weeks, and that several local birders were trying to place a gag order on it. First chase-able GGOW in Utah in 28 years, maybe really ever given the locations, and ability to share information in 1989. Probably a once-in-a-lifetime sighting for most Utah Birders.

Weston Smith (1 Feb 2017) - [Stoddard, UT] - Horned Lark. 250. This is an estimate definitely on the low side, I didn't count. I was more focused on finding a rare bird in the flock, without success. Usually only see small flocks of around a dozen or two in Morgan County there just isn't the habitat that bring large numbers. I'm guessing this is do to the extreme amount of snow Northern Utah is getting this winter. These birds are doing just like other animals in the area, congregating in large numbers wherever food is available.

Susan Allsop (28 Feb 2017) - [Wymount Terrace] - Varied Thrush. The bird was perched about 30 feet off the ground in a honey locust tree outside of my window. I got a good look at it through binoculars for about 10 minutes, comparing it to pictures online and Sibley's field guide, and am convinced it was an adult female varied thrush. Through the binoculars I had a very good close up view. It had the gray breast band, bold patterned wings, orange underbelly, orange stripe over eye, white under tail.

Could not pick out much of white mark on sides, but with scope and tail erect could clearly see white undertail coverts, separated by black on upper side . Photos taken but very low quality at 1/3 mile. Long profile of all dark bird slightly darker on neck. Chicken-like head bobbing and pecking at surface of water. Pointed bill. Color of bill looks whitish with a hint of yellow in photo rather than all yellow, perhaps due to age-first year bird.

Mike Hearell (17 Feb 2017) - [Ogden Bay WMA] - Trumpeter Swan. Audible. Towards the end of the day as the swans were taking flight and heading north I heard the single "trumpeted" note mixed in with the TUSW noise. I heard the call a few times in a short time, but I'm not sure if it came from the group of ~700 swans on the ice or the ones taking flight.

Bill Hunt (13 Feb 2017) - [Riverside Trail] - Merlin (Black). Looks very much like the Pacific (black) merlin, in the first edition Sibley page 130, with a completely dark face, without a mustache. I did not see the bird fly, but I did drive around to the Kayak park parking lot to get the best photo. This bird looks very similar to the black merlin photographed along the same Riverdale Trail on Nov 1, 2013: http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S15543044
