Kevin Christensen (23 September 2016) - [ [Bear River MBR] - Whimbrel. We were really surprised to see this bird fly in! Larger, shorebird with long down-curved bill, dark brown overall with black striping on head, larger than willet but smaller than long-billed curlews. We have seen this bird plenty in Florida.

Kendall Watkins (15 September 20160 - [Willard Bay SP]  - Black-bellied Plover. Flushed with all the other shorebirds from far out on the playa after an airboat came through. Passed by me calling (purwee) which alerted me to the bird. Didn't get great looks, but watched it return to the far flats in the scope.

Brett Mossman (24 September 2016) - [Rendezvous Park] - Rose-breasted Grosbeak. Large finch in transition plumage. Rose coloration in the top of the breast with some orange around the nape. Some streaking present on the flanks with a white rump patch. The bird appeared to have a dark bill but otherwise seemed to be a Rose-breasted Grosbeak.

Zachary Loman (20 September 2016) - [Hyrum Reservoir] - Lesser Black-backed Gull. Appears to be alternate plumage adult. Very dark mantle, smaller bill than WEGU or GBBG, considerably larger than nearby RBGU and FRGU. Somewhat distant, but clearly a large white headed gull with obvious red gondyeal spot on yellow bill. Sammy Cowell (17 September 2016) - [Trapper Park] - Chestnut-sided Warbler. Small, colorful songbird foraging at mid-level in the tree. At first, I didn't recognize it because it did not resemble anything that was in this area. However, chestnut streaking on the side distinctive along with prominent wing bars and white eye-ring. Light/gray underparts and colorful crown of head. Concluded that it was a AHY male as no other songbird that size could have the chestnut flanks and the other field marks. No records for Cache Co., but they have been known to occur along Wasatch front during fall migration. Did not get a photo as it flew out of view too quickly.

Tom Wuenschell (16 September 2016) - [Murray Hill Rd] - Dusky Flycatcher. Little bird in the maples. Olive about, light with yellow wash below, eye ring and wing bars. Flycatching in between maple shrubs, gleaning insects from twigs and leaves within maple shrubs.

Cullen Clark (15 September 2016) - [Trapper Park] - Golden-crowned Sparrow. Gray bill, faded yellow patch on the forehead with wide black stripes on either side. There appeared to be some brown in the black stripes. I was not able to get a photograph but I will try again later today. It was in the willows next to the foot bridge between the Logan River-Icon trail and Bridger Park.

Diana Richards Doyle (28 September 2016) - [Antelope Island SP] - Williamson's Sapsucker. Adult male first spotted as I came up to summit, flushed from one juniper to another, distinctive jet-black upperside with bold white wing patches and white rump. Then I watched it in a juniper for a few minutes, showing white wing slash on a crisp solid black woodpecker with thin white facial lines, red throat, and some clean yellow showing on belly. Extremely shy, I had to sit quietly and wait for it to come around cautiously on my side. Viewed from about 40 feet.

Kendell Watkins  (18 September 2016) - [Antelope Island SP & Marina] - Lark Bunting. Hanging with Meadowlarks at the second bridge. Streaky brown sparrow looking bird with large distinct white covert patches. After the initial sighting I could not find the bird again as the Meadowlarks dispersed. I wish I would have photographed this one but I didn't have my camera ready.

Kendell Watkins  (18 September 2016) - [Antelope Island Causeway] - American Golden-Plover. Seen at a considerable distance north of the road with avocets, stilts, and a nearby Black-bellied Plover. Long-legged plover with golden/brown coloring overall. Small dainty bill, long primary projection, and a noticeable bold supercilium. Decent looks through the scope.

Weston Smith (12 September 2016) - [Lost Creek - Croydon, UT] - Common Tern. There were six terns flying around the reservoir this morning made up of two groups, a group of two large terns definitely Caspian and a group of four small terns. When I viewed the first one with optics I determined it to be a non breeding plumage Forster's Tern. I then decided to try taking some pictures of them since this was the first time I remember seeing Forester's Terns in Morgan County since I started to keep records in 2001. I was able to get a couple okay pictures of the last two of the small terns before they got too far away. Upon uploading the pictures on my computer I noticed the last tern looks to be a Common not a Forster's. I did not notice this in the field as I only used my binoculars on the first bird then grabbed camera and just snapped a few photos. From all the books and pictures, I could find this bird looks to be a Common due to the dark on the front middle of wings. I was a bit thrown off by the bill color but have found the juvenile Common have orange bill.

Larger than peep and slightly smaller than a killdeer, but slimmer. Brown above with dense chest streaking extending into white belly. Longish yellow legs and relatively upright posture.

We've been looking for any signs of hybridization and aren't finding any. The bird in question is not banded and is along 8300 W north of 700 N in western Weber County.  [Since a person nearby reported losing 6 Barnacle Geese which he had purchased, the bird was thought to be an escapee].
