Norm Jenson (29 Aug 2014) - Just had a Solitary Sandpiper on the I-15 frontage rd just east of 7200 W ponds on the north side of road with a couple of killdeers and avocets.

Eric Peterson (28 Aug 2014) - [Red Butte Gardens, SLC] -  I have been over photographing Hummingbirds at Red Butte on my lunch. I have been mainly in the Fragrance garden which is just north after you walk out the main doors at the top. Today for the first time I saw four species of Hummingbirds there. They are all immature birds but they are all there. Today was the first day I have seen a Broad-tailed there since the spring. Also there was a immature Nashville Warbler along with an immature Wilson's Warbler on the path to the Rose Garden.

Rich Young (26 Aug 20124) - Today as I was photographing some of the new Fall arrivals at Big Cottonwood Regional Park, I happened onto an Ash-throated Flycatcher! Not the “Big Find” like the Tennessee Warbler I documented there this time last year; but I was surprised and impressed with it, having never seen one before… Cool Bird!

Lyn Christiansen (3 Aug 2014) - I have seen a Northern Bobwhite in my yard at the east end of 10th Avenue in Salt Lake. I saw it yesterday afternoon and again this morning with a flock of California quail. It was near a thick hedge and took cover there so I was not able to get a photo.

SUMMIT COUNTY

Dave Hanscom (19 Aug 2014) - [Echo Reservoir] - RUFF [or Reeve, since it was a female.] If you want to chase this bird, it was very near the road on the east side of Echo Reservoir. I could see it with my scope from the Rail Trail at the south end of the water.

The following birds were seen within the survey route: [highlights]:  ...Wood Duck,...Great Egret, White-faced Ibis, Double-crested Cormorant, American White Pelican, Killdeer, Black-necked Stilt,...Black Tern, Caspian Tern...

UTAH COUNTY

Jeff Cooper (28 Aug 2014) - [Pleasant Grove] -  The young male Calliope Hummingbird continued at the feeder today, primarily during dusk. He must be feeding somewhere else during earlier hours. Some of his long gorget feathers are beginning to show on his throat...

Herb (4 Aug 2014) - [Salem] - At dinner today my backyard filled with Black-headed Grosbeaks and Bullock's Orioles. They were mainly going after my plum tree, at least a dozen of each. After that I went to the front door to see a 4 point mule deer run in front of my house. All of this a block south of Salem Pond.

WASHINGTON COUNTY

Jeff Cooper (29 Aug 2014) - Although my wife and I were primarily on a vacation to visit national parks last weekend I took advantage of being in St George to check on the Black-Hawk nesting site I discovered back in May. I'd thought about the nesting pair many times and kept in touch with wildlife officials to see if they were successful breeders. I never got a confirmation that juveniles had been seen so I had to make at least one attempt to check the site while in St George. I was delighted to quickly find an adult that was hunting and really thrilled when I tracked down and photographed two juvenile Black-Hawks. I think I heard a third juvenile, but one adult was out of sight when I heard that call so I couldn't positively rule out the adult calling. When I was done I had observed both adults and two separate juveniles.

Rick Fridell (14 Aug 2014) - [Lava Point] -  This evening (8/14) I saw several Hermit Warblers in a large mixed flock at Lava Point, Zion National Park. I'm not sure exactly how many Hermit Warblers were present, but there were at least 8 or so. Most were first fall / female types, however, there were a few adult males present as well. I also saw 1 or 2 in a mixed flock near Whispering Pines in the Kolob Meadows.
-- Other birds at least loosely associated with the Lava Point mixed flock included: [highlights]: ... Cassin's Vireo, Steller's Jay...Orange-crowned Warbler, Virginia's Warbler... Black-throated Gray Warbler, Townsend's Warbler...and Red Crossbill.

WEBER COUNTY

Mike Hearell (31 Aug 2014) - American Redstart in Weber County.
