Between showers this afternoon, Garr Ranch on Antelope Island produced some nice birds, including: Townsend's Warbler (several), Nashville Warbler (2), Cassin's Vireo (4-5), Plumbeous Vireo, Yellow-breasted Chat (at least 2), Olive-sided Flycatcher, Rufous Hummingbird, Townsend's Solitaire.  A juvenile Northern Mockingbird was seen along the road to the ranch, in the trees by the "Springs and Wetlands" pullout, which is a little more than a mile from the ranch.

Pomera Fronce -  (Fri, 20 Sep 2002) Sid Westerman birded Goshen Canyon today and just called me with a report. We
have been going back and forth about a vireo we saw down there. After he and his son studied the bird for quite some time, they feel 100% sure that it is a Philadelphia Vireo. ...

Eric Huish - (Sat, 14 Sep 2002)  ... There was a lot of activity at Burriston Ponds though. Most exciting being a female American Redstart. Take the road on your right as you enter and park where the trees start to get thick and walk the trail between the two ponds.

SUMMIT COUNTY

Kelley Holtman - (Thu, 26 Sep 2002) I have a male Blue Grouse in my backyard! This is a lifer for me; one that I have taken hikes looking for. I have taken a few photos and my husband is here to witness as well. He did a little display in the backyard fanning his tail, ruffling his feathers so we could see his reddish air sacs and walking around in a circle.

Letitia Lussier - (Sun, 1 Sep 2002)  It is always worth sharing the excitement of a new yard bird . An adult Gray Catbird and a juvenile (who was chasing the adult around) were around for several days. I do believe this is the results of migration and not a locally nesting bird though I could be wrong.

UINTAH COUNTY

Ron Brunson - (Mon, 2 Sep)  The Brown Thrasher was back in my yard again this morning along with catbirds, Virginias warbler, orange crowned warblers, Wilson's warblers, A great tailed grackle and a partial albino robin that had snow white wings and tail, green tailed tohee, house wrens. among others.

It was a Lewis's Woodpecker. ...  We also saw least sandpipers, pectoral sandpipers, and a semipalmated plover.

Robert Bradley, Tony Jones - (Sun, 22 Sep 2002) ... we saw 6 Cattle Egrets on the North side of the road (Boat Harbor Road) in among a small herd of cattle. They were busy eating the insects off the cattle. On of the birds still had some of the rusty coloring. Great sight.

KC Childs - (Wed, 18 Sep 2002) I went out to Utah Lake State Park accessed from Provo Center Street in Utah County. If you go out along the southern dike where the river enters the lake there are a lot of shorebirds. Maybe around 150 of them. There was one American Golden Plover, Black Bellied Plover, several Semiplamated Plovers, Sanderlings, ...

KC Childs - (13 Sep 2002)  I ran out to the Utah Lake this morning. At the State Park there was still Semipalmated Plovers. There were still peeps there as well. Also some Yellowlegs have joined the bunch.

We also found an immature male ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD in the same area.

Bob Showler - On Wednesday, September 18 and Thursday, September 19 Christi Carmichael, Lonny Boring and I saw two Vaux's Swifts over Springdale Pond (behind the Switchback Restaurant in Springdale). They were in with a larger group of White-throated Swifts. The swifts are more active over the pond from around 5 p.m. on.

Bill Hunter - (Sun, 22 Sep 2002)  Last night, while my wife and I were out for a walk, we noticed one American White Pelican flying over the pond (at SunRiver). This morning there were 30 American White Pelicans on the pond. On the silt pond there was a small flock of about 9 Blue-winged Teal. Beautiful wing pattern as they took off and flew before me only to alight in the pond again.

Kevin Wheeler - (10 Sep 2002) I'm a little late reporting, but Kirsten Dutcher, Stephen Jones, and I saw a Common Black-Hawk last tuesday, 9-10, near the inflow of Birch Creek along the North Fork of the Virgin River in Zion Canyon (across the street from the Court of the Patriarchs stop).

Rick Fridell -   This evening (9/4) at 7:45 pm, Kristen and I saw an American Golden Plover at the SR-9 Sewer Ponds (Northwest Pond), Washington County, UT.  We believe it is an adult in non-breeding plumage.  ... we are calling it an
American based on the prominent white supercilium (eyebrow) and relatively dark lower belly.  However, it did appear to be very buffy yellow on the head, neck, and breast.
